L'aquaspiritus
Oil on canvas
58 x 58 in

As the name suggests, this painting represents an abstract of the spirit of water dispersing throughout the body of water. The predominant colour is dark blue, giving a sense of mystery and the tonal gradual colour of circles gives certain mysticism and somewhat gives the painting a spiritual character. A deep and mysterious spiritual tension governs the relationship between the spirit and the surrounding background.

The painting plays with two different textures; bold textures for the background and defined subtle circles originating from the middle of the canvas. The effect of the background created with agitated, spontaneous, fast and long strokes gives life to the painting announcing the presence of the artist. The diagonal wavy lines of the background crossing in all directions occupying the negative space, which is pushed towards the back and bringing the subject forward, creates a dynamic feeling to the painting. Only a subdued light is allowed to penetrate leaving a dark mass of swirls.

The texture is intense with mysterious vibrations of tones; and the viewer’s are attracted by the magnetic radiance of the tones. The subtle effect of the spirit stands out from the surface catching the light. This technique of blending different areas of colour and tone has a vivid saturation.
